- The lion memorial is dedicated to the soldiers of the German-French war of 1870/71
- The outline and implementation was from the Munich artist Rudolf Schwarz
- The memorials of that war are most times for the participants, not for soldiers died in action
- With the restructuring of the old market place the memorial was restored, as consequence the names on it are readable again
